I am now listening to the sounds of nature in my apartment almost all of the time. I am normally pretty chill about things. But this is taking me to a whole new level of inner quiet and peace.
Cat TV & Stormiji
It all started with my new life of taking care of my son’s 4-month-old puppy, Storm (or Stormiji as the folks on Insight Timer know her as 😂). She, of course, has a lot of puppy energy and I was struggling to meet her needs plus get my work done during the day. (For full story and photos, click HERE)
One day, I started looking through Youtube for “dog tv”. I’d heard that some people let their dogs watch these shows that totally entertained them! Well, I didn’t like the dog tv I found because they all had classical music playing. (I love classical music. But it wasn’t what I was looking for!)
Then I discovered “Cat TV” where it was the most wonderful nature sounds and videos of squirrels, birds, chickens, and other wildlife. My dog loved it! My daughter’s cat was over one day and he was also transfixed watching the TV! It was amazing.
The only problem was the commercials. Glaring commercials in the middle of this peace was more annoying than normal.
Then I discovered that Insight Timer had beautiful Nature Sounds Recordings! Well, I love Insight Timer and there are no commercials. So, I made a special playlist of just nature sounds for Storm and I to listen to during the day.
As wonderful as it is for her, I’ve realized that I really, really like it just for me.
Staying Connected with Nature
What I love about these Soundscapes on Insight Timer is that they aren’t forced. Nothing is added. When you’re playing them, it just sounds like you have a window open and you are in a cabin in the woods.
I realized with the puppy that perhaps my home was far too quiet. In fact, it was unnaturally quiet. Here in Canada, once it’s wintertime, we close our windows up tight and no external sounds come in. We might listen to music or some folks have the TV going just to have background sound.
But what if it is the sounds of nature that our souls are missing? What if the silence is unnatural?
Who can it benefit?
These wonderful sounds of nature calm me in brand new ways. They calm my 4-month-old husky puppy completely. I can only imagine how they would affect anyone with anxiety or depression. What about anxious children and teens? What about folks on the autistic spectrum?
Imagine if we could play this in hospitals and shelters!
I just wanted to share this because it is having such a profound, yet subtle effect on my life… What if it could make all the difference in your home or in the home of someone you love?
